Slamuary 2011

Clear Lake Community and Recreation Center - Houston, TX

January 29, 2011

Rubio is out and acting in his capacity as Gustavo Mendoza's manager. According to Rubio this is THE year of Gustavo Mendoza. Rubio declares that if Mendoza loses any matches here in the Pro Wrestling Alliance this year - he (Mendoza) will leave the PWA. Speak of the devil, Mendoza is out and his match is next.

Match #1 -- Gustavo Mendoza vs. Cedric Pain
So far it's not looking like Gustavo's year at all. Cedric Pain has a headbutt oriented offense. A reverse STO gets the win for Cedric Pain. Adios Gustavo.

Match #2 -- Triple Threat #1 Contenders Match for PWA Women's Championship
Lillie Mae vs. Amanda Foxx vs. Kelly Kevin
While Kelly Kevin keeps getting tossed to the floor Amanda Foxx works over the arm of Lillie Mae. Foxx even works in a Fujiwara armbar. It's Kelly though who finishes strong. Kelly takes out Foxx with a Bronco Buster. A RKO to Lillie Mae and Kelly Kevin is the new #1 Contender for the PWA Women's Championship.
  • Lillie Mae thinks Kelly has "purdy" hair.

Match #3 -- PWA Iron Man Championship Match
Neico vs. (c) Gabe Hollier
Hollier's offense is straight off of a 2003 episode of Velocity. Even including the reverse double arm stretch (standing surfboard). When Hollier misses a top rope elbow drop Neico takes over. A swinging neckbreaker makes Neico the new PWA Iron Man Championship.

**INTERMISSION**

Match #4 -- Amien Rios vs. Joey Jersey
Jersey uses underhanded tactics to counter Rios's lucha libre stylings. Rios finally just starts kicking him in the face. It's a back and forth match until both men tumble over the top rope. Continuing the fight on the outside gets both men counted out. No Contest.

PWA Tag Team Championship Match
Kid Ransom & "Rockstar" Robbie Gilmore vs. (c) "Ruthless" Ryan Davidson & Rubio
Somehow Davidson has held on to the tag team titles is spite of the shortcomings of his partner Rubio. The good guys (Gilmore and Kid Ransom) start fast and strong. Gilmore hits a pescado on the rudos. Ransom follows up with a big tope suicida. Davidson finally manages to slow the good guys down but tagging in Rubio gives control back to Gilmore and Ransom. Unfortunately for the good guys, Ransom makes the mistake of chasing Rubio around the ring. Davidson takes him out. Finally the rudos have control of the match with Ransom getting the worst of it. Hot tag to the Rockstar. DDT on Davidson but Rubio makes the save. Rubio and Kid Ransom both get tossed. It is "Ruthless" Ryan and the Rockstar alone in the ring. Coming off the ropes the Rockstar hits a CodeBreaker variation and gets the win. New PWA Tag Team Champions "Rockstar" Robbie Gilmore and Kid Ransom.

PWA Heavyweight Championship Match
Wallace Gordon vs. (c) The Bulkster
Gordon grimaces when the ring announcer introduces him as Gordon Wallace. The Bulkster is in full NWO Hollywood regalia tonight. Gordon is in full Braveheart mode, facepaint and everything. Decent enough match but like all other Bulkster matches you already know how it's going to end. Bulk up, punches, big boot, followed by the leg drop and the Bulkster retains.

Armadillo Marketplace - Houston, TX

January 29, 2011

For over a year the IWE has been regularly (once a month) running shows at the Armadillo Marketplace, which is a large, indoor flea market. These monthly IWE shows draw some regulars and a smattering of people who see the promo poster(s) while perusing the flea market. Well, someone from the IWE organization reasoned that if we have a free show we will attract more than just a smattering of the flea market clientele. And so the first IWE show of 2011 was open to all. The end result was (at least for half of the show) a standing room only peanut gallery - almost all of whom had little real interest in professional wrestling. This gallery of people, hereafter referred to as the "rabble", brought no additional energy to the show and since they didn't seem to be spending money on concessions, I'm guessing they brought no revenue either.

Match #1 -- Surge vs. The Panther
This Surge is most definitely NOT Matt Hardy and he seems to have a hygiene problem. According the the $2.00 IWE Wrestling Program the Panther has wrestled internationally but I'm not buying it. The rabble don't care. Panther hits a tope con hilo and you can hear crickets chirping. Surge steals the win with his legs wrapped around the ropes and receives polite applause.

Mr B. is out and insults all things Texan. The regulars give him some heat. The rabble seem to be indifferent. B moves on to insult the entire USA. The rabble seem mildly amused. Finally Mr. B insults his opponent to be for this evening. This brings out the AmeriKings (American Eagle & Chris Kings). Eagle takes the mic and announces that this year the AmeriKings are going to be serious, no more joking around. That would have probably gone over better if they weren't wearing rainbow coloured afro wigs. Eventually after much more talk we learn that Mr. B will be facing the American Eagle in a no DQ match later and that Chris Kings will be taking on V.I.P. right now.

Match #2 -- V.I.P. vs. Chris Kings
Ever the showman V.I.P. plays to the rabble. He misses his Heisman elbow drop but nobody notices. A reverse STO by V.I.P. leaves Kings vulnerable and V.I.P. locks on an elaborate submission (we'll just call it the Heisman Entanglement Hold for now) and gets the win.

Match #3 -- IWE Tag Team Championship Match
Nemesis & The Pride vs. (c) The Wrecking Crew: Mike B. Nasty & Tank Bishop
Pride and Nemesis use every rudo trick and tactic in the book but are unable to take the titles from the Wrecking Crew. The Pride gets pinned following the Wrecking Crew's two man RockBottom finisher move thing.

**INTERMISSION**

Only about half the rabble returned after the intermission. Those who did return got to see the first IWE appearance of Bolt Brady. Of course, the rabble had no idea that as Blair Spykes he has appeared here many times. Brady informs us that Blair Spykes is no more, he is Bolt Brady now and he's going to win gold. Brady's opponent for the heavyweight title this evening decides now would be a good time to make an appearance. Syn saunters to the ring escorted by a heretofore unseen masked accomplice. Syn's accomplice/bodyguard/whatever appears to be someone found wondering around the flea market. Just give him a mask and he's good to go. Anyway, Syn contends that it doesn't matter what his opponent calls himself he's still going to lose.

Match #4 -- No DQ Match
Mr. B vs. American Eagle
Eagle rushes to the ring and the fight is on. Tope con hilo by Eagle gets no noticeable reaction from the remaining rabble. Mr B. hits Eagle with what will be the first of many headshots with a garbage can lid. Some chairs and a ladder find their way into the ring. Mr. B misses a quebrada but Eagle doesn't capitalize on the mistake, instead he decides to go digging around under the ring. He comes up with cookie sheets. Moving on... Mr. B takes a nasty looking backdrop onto the aforementioned ladder. That doesn't put him away though. Now it's Eagle's turn as he takes a nasty looking FU onto a couple of chairs. If that wasn't enough Mr. B superplexes him onto a strategically placed garbage can. But it takes B too long to make the cover and the Eagle still has some life left. In fact, he screams "I won't die!" Two (2) unprotected chairshots to the head of the American Eagle. The Eagle channels his inner Hulk Hogan and begins a Hulk Up sequence. Everything, the convulsions, the punches, the big boot are all included. However, when it comes to the leg drop Mr. B just sits up causing the miss. Two (2) more unprotected chairshots to the head of the Eagle. Reverse pedigree by Mr. B puts the American Eagle away. Mr. B apparently feeling somewhat unfulfilled by the whole experience decides now would be a good time to break the Eagle's wing, er.. arm. Chris Kings is out to break that up though. Eagle is rather miraculously feeling well enough to take the mic... and promptly begins cussing, which isn't really apropos to a family show. Anyway, Eagle vows to make sure Mr. B never wrestles again.

Main Event -- IWE Heavyweight Championship Match
Bolt Brady vs. (c) Syn
Syn is once again with his mysterious (not named) masked accomplice. In fact, it is the "assistance" of the masked accomplice which puts Syn in control of the match. Bolt is so hyper all the time it's hard to tell an inspired comeback from just his normal operating speed. Springboard Codebreaker and it looks like Bolt will win the championship... but the masked accomplice is up on the apron and distracts the referee. Now as Bolt is setting up for his next big move the masked accomplice just blatantly blasts him with a chair. The referee calls for the bell and it's a No Contest finish.
Syn and the masked accomplice put a beatdown on Bolt Brady. The Wrecking Crew make the save. It is announced that next month there will be a rematch between Syn and Bolt Brady for the IWE Heavyweight Championship, and it will be a No DQ match.

Attack N Destroy Wrestling

Champions Life Centre - Spring, Texas

January 22, 2011

Match #1 -- Randy Mayze vs. Kris Kronie
A.N.D's first match of 2011 was an even affair until Kronie attempted an ill-fated split-legged moonsault off the top rope. Mayze took quick advantage of Kronie's mistake but couldn't come up with the right combination of moves to finish him off. The frustration in Mayze grew as he was unable to put Kronie away. Finally, Mayze snapped. He went to the outside and began throwing chairs into the ring. However, it was Kronie who first picked up a chair to use as a weapon. The referee saw that and moved to try and prevent the illegal chairshot. This allowed Mayze to hit Kronie from behind with a low blow. Mayze got the win with a running neckbreaker.
  • Nice swinging Side Effect off the second rope by Kronie.

Postmatch, the "Centerfold" Matthew Palmer (accompanied by Joshua Angel) comes out and challenges Kris Kronie to a match right there and then. Kronie accepts Palmer's challenge. But before any physicality can begin JT LaMotta comes out and has something to say. LaMotta holds up a FedEx mailer and announces that "the DNA results are in" and Kris Kronie is his (LaMotta's) younger brother. LaMotta goes on to say that until he can prove that Kronie is not his brother, no one is going to mess with Kronie. And so, it will be Palmer versus LaMotta later on tonight.

As ring announcer Jim Dickson prepares to introduce the participants in the next match - he is interrupted by A.N.D owner Matthew Byrnes. The bossman announces that he has fired Mysterious Q. Byrnes goes on to announce that A.N.D Heavyweight champion Theodore Kingsley III will defend his title tonight against Bolt Brady in a lumberjack strap match. Futhermore he (Byrnes) will be the special guest referee. And since that wasn't enough Byrnes call out Dan the Man. Apparently Dan the Man had been fired at a previous show and now Byrnes is asking if he wants his job back. When Dan says yes Byrnes says he will hire him back as head janitor. Somehow this all winds up with the two men in a two out of three challenges talent contest. Yeah, I don't know.

Now the reigning Cruiserweight champion Mr. B is out and he has a microphone. He challenges anyone in the back to a fight. The challenge is accepted by Wallace Gordon. This will be a non-title match.

Match #2 -- Mr. B vs. Wallace Gordon
Gordon attacks B from behind and the match is underway. Wallace Gordon uses every rudo choke known to man in this match. A superkick by Mr. B finally turns the match in his favor. Mr B gets the win with his finisher Boss Hoggin'.
  • Gordon turns a Mr. B headscissors attempt into a sidewalk slam.

Match #3 -- "Centerfold" Matthew Palmer vs. JT LaMotta
Matthew Palmer is accompanied by Joshua Angel while JT LaMotta is accompanied with his "new" younger brother Kris Kronie. The larger LaMotta has control of this match until he runs into a facefull of spray sanitizer courtesy of Joshua Angel. What goes around comes around though as a second spraying attempt by Angel gets Palmer square in the face. LaMotta capitalizes and puts Palmer away with a cradle DDT.
  • Good match between these two as you might expect.

**INTERMISSION**

Matthew Byrnes is back out and it is time for him and Dan the Man to do their two out of three challenges talent contest. First, Byrnes challenges Dan to a debate which Byrnes wins. Second, Dan challenges Byrnes to a popularity contest which Dan wins. Third, Byrnes chooses a dance contest and loses badly. So I guess Dan is back in. Byrnes ends up attacking Dan from behind and using a crutch leaves Dan the Man laid out.
Now Johnny Fantasy is out. Apparently this is his first appearance at an A.N.D event and he promptly introduces himself as Peter Fantasy. Yeah, I don't know. Fast Eddie Vegas comes out and shoos Fantasy away.

Match #4 -- Fast Eddie Vegas vs. "Rockstar" Robbie Gilmore
Early in the match it's Fast Eddie making with some underhanded tactics but as the match goes on it is the "Rockstar" who is bending and breaking the rules. Fast Eddie wins with a LungBlower variation.
  • Nice Asai Moonsault by Fast Eddie.

Main Event -- A.N.D Heavyweight Championship (Lumberjack Strap Match)
Bolt Brady vs. (c) Theodore Kingsley III
Matthew Byrnes is the special guest referee. The lumberjacks (carrying straps) are Wallace Gordon, Peter Fantasy, Joshua Angel, Matthew Palmer, "Rockstar" Robbie, Mr. B, Kris Kronie, JT LaMotta, and Randy Mayze. The good guy lumberjacks (Mr. B, Kris Kronie, and JT LaMotta) try to protect Bolt Brady against the bad guy lumberjacks (everybody else) but the numbers aren't on their side. Brady gets strapped anytime he lands on the outside anywhere near the bad lumberjacks. The special guest referee (Byrnes) is no help as he obviously favors Kingsley. In fact, everytime Bolt Brady makes a cover Byrnes has trouble counting. Kingsley finally gets dumped outside by the good guy lumberjacks and takes a strapping. But it's all for naught as Kingsley hits Brady with a running Samoan Drop and Byrnes makes the fast count. The champion Theodore Kingsley III retains.
It doesn't take long before everybody is fighting. Bolt Brady hits a tope con hilo on a whole crowd. Only Byrnes remains unmolested standing alone in the ring. But not for long, Dan the Man is out and it's a spear for Matt Byrnes.

Guilty By Association 5
January 16, 2011
Austin, TX - Mohawk

  • Match #1 - No-Rope Barbed Wire Match for the Anarchy Televised Championship
  • Scot Summers vs. (c) JT LaMotta
    • This is actually a no-rope barbed wire match with cinder blocks.
    • Summers has a knee injury going into this match.
    • Both men rake the others face against the barbed wire. Summers is the first to bleed. LaMotta is the first to be thrown into the wire.
    • LaMotta goes after Summer's injured knee early and often.
    • Summers is the first to use the cinder blocks.
    • Summers suplexes LaMotta, both men land on broken cinder blocks.
    • The fight spills to the outside. Chair shots for both men.
    • With LaMotta on the apron and his leg entangled in the barbed wire, Summers hits him with a cinder block to the face.
    • Summers takes a small segment of barbed wire and molds it into a crown. Summers puts it on and headbutts LaMotta.
    • LaMotta takes the crown and uses it to chop Summers.
    • Summers breaks a Figure Four with a cinder block to LaMotta's knee.
    • Summers finds the ring crew's wire cutters and cuts off a section of barbed wire from one side of the ring.
    • Wire cutter shot to LaMotta.
    • Summers wraps himself in his freshly cut barbed wire. It's a barbed wire body block to LaMotta.
    • LaMotta still has some fight left in him. A big body slam, Summers hit his head hard on a cinder block.
    • A brainbuster onto a cinder block and Scot Summers is the new Anarchy Televised Champion.
    • Postmatch, the ring crew begins to cut down the barbed wire.
  • Match #2 - Taipei Deathmatch
  • Darin Childs vs. Shawn Vexx
    • Before the ring crew can even finish cutting down the barbed wire, Shawn Vexx enters the ring and calls out Darin Childs. The match begins with barbed wire around half of the ring and broken cinder blocks covering the mat.
    • This is a Taipei Deathmatch which means both combatants have their fists taped, covered with glue, then dipped in broken glass.
    • Both men come out punching. Vexx is the first to come up bleeding.
    • Childs chokes out Vexx with the barbed wire.
    • Outside of the ring, Childs suplexes Vexx onto a chair.
    • The men fight in and all around the ring and even upstairs to the Mohawk's second level.
    • Back in the ring, Vexx DDT's Childs onto one of the few remaining intact cinder blocks.
    • Now exchanging haymakers, both men connect at the same time and both are down. Neither man can rise before the ten count - the referee rules the match a no contest.
    • Vexx is up first and is not pleased with the outcome. First he hits Childs with some viscious chairshots, then its a suplex onto a cinderblock.
    • Finally the ringcrew can cut down the remaining barbed wire and clean up the ring.
  • Match #3 - Faction Warfare (Trios 4-Way Dance)
  • The Submission Squad: Gary Jay, Evan Gelistico & Pierre Abernathy vs. The Smurf Nation: JC Bravo, Berry Breeze & Chingo Smurf vs. The Children Of Pain: Khris Wolfe, Jason Silver & Sky Ryder vs. The New Takeover: "Cowboy" James Claxton, Franco D'Angelo & Jaykus Plisken
    • This match is to one fall and contested under scramble rules. The loser of the fall must leave his faction.
    • Miss Maulie accompanies the New Takeover.
    • JC Bravo lands on his head twice early.
    • Make that three times.
    • The Submission Squad and the Children of Pain along with JC Bravo and Chingo Smurf all end up fighting outside the ring. This leaves Berry Breeze alone in the ring with all three members of the New Takeover. Berry Breeze doesn't last long and now he is out of the Smurf Nation.
  • Match #4 - 10,000 Thumbtacks Match
  • Rachel Summerlyn vs. Athena
    • Athena is fast becoming my new favorite Joshi wrestler.
    • It is Athena who dumps out the thumbtacks that cover the ring. Unfortunately for her, she is also the first to be backdropped onto the thumbtacks.
    • This is another match that ends up on the outside - with Rachel ending up in the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd rows.
    • Rachel hits Athena with a swinging neckbreaker on the concrete.
    • While on the outside Athena sets up a barbed wire board on top of a couple of chairs and then pours tacks on top of that.
    • Davey Vega is out to interfere in the match but Athena doesn't want his help.
    • Gory Bomb onto the tacks leaves Athena vulnerable and Rachel puts her in a Texas Cloverleaf. Now it's Gary Jay who is out and he breaks this up.
    • Back to the outside, now it is Athena who is up on the stage area with Rachel standing (woozily) on the floor in front of the barbed wire board-chairs-tacks setup. Athena with a Thesz press off the stage onto Rachel who goes through the barbed wire board. Athena is the winner.
  • Match #5 - Young Guns U-30 Championship (Last Man Standing Match)
  • Greg Symonds vs. (c) ACH
    • Prior to the match, Greg Symonds announces that this will be his last match in professional wrestling.
    • Much intensity shown by both men.
    • With Symonds on the outside - momentarily in a chair on the front row, ACH hits a full speed tope suicida.
    • ACH bodyslams Symonds on the concrete.
    • With Symonds down on the outside, ACH hits a 450 splash off the apron.
    • Back in the ring and Symonds is bleeding.
    • After an intense battle, a wounded Symonds ends up on one knee in the corner. At the top of his lungs, Symonds yells for ACH to "Be a man." ACH enters into a Crane stance and then delivers a solid kick to the face of Greg Symonds. ACH retains the U-30 title and the torch is passed.
    • An excellent match... buy the DVD.
  • Match #6 - Dingo vs. Akira Tozawa
    • Tozawa works over Dingo's arm like a master.
    • Big tope suicida attempt by Tozawa, who ends up eating chair.
    • Dingo works over Tozawa's neck.
    • Now Tozawa hits a full speed tope suicida.
    • Tozawa with a German suplex hold but his neck is too hurt to hold the bridge.
    • Tozawa gets the win with his armbar submission.
    • Another excellent match, in fact some at the show call this the match of the night. Buy the DVD!!!
  • Match #7 - ACW World Hardcore Championship Match
  • Jimmy Jacobs vs. (c) Masada
    • After a brief appearance of some chain wrestling, the ring fills with chairs.
    • This is another match where the combatants fight all over the outside of the ring.
    • Near the stage area, Jacobs finds some skewers and sticks them into Masada's head.
    • Jacobs hits Masada with a bulldog onto a standing chair.
    • Masada gets Jacobs up on his shoulders and hits the electric chair onto a couple of chairs.
    • Masada retains the title with a Tombstone piledriver onto a pile a chairs.
  • Match #8 - Four Way Elimination Match
  • Skyler Skelly vs. Mat Fitchett vs. Davey Vega vs. Paul London
    • Even though it is still January, Paul London wins the 2011 award for longest entrance.
    • Dive trains sees London nail Skelly with a slingshot spinning pescado.
    • Vega hits both London and Skelly with a tope con hilo over the top rope.
    • Fitchett finishes the sequence with a twisting tope con hiro.
    • Fitchett eliminates Skelly.
    • A Shooting Star Press from London eliminates Fitchett.
    • But it is Vega who with an Air Raid Crash eliminates London and wins the match.
  • Match #9 - American Joshi Championship (Dog Collar Match)
  • Lady Poison vs. (c) Portia Perez
    • Portia attacks Lady Poison from behind with a belt shot to start the match.
    • Since Lady Poison came out with the collar and chain already around her neck, Portia takes full advantage.
    • The two women fight all over the Mohawk, including the merchandise stand.
    • Portia dumps out a trash can - beer bottles and all - on Lady Poison.
