VFW Post 8905 (Cypress, Texas) was standing room only as the World of Wrestling presented their big February event, Valentine's Vengeance. I know this because as I arrived (five minutes before the pre-show), I was relegated to one of the last available chairs in the back row. Sitting back there reminds me why I (usually) make the effort to be early, or even better, buy reserved tickets ahead of time. This is relevant because where I was sitting the PA sound wasn't carrying well over the crowd's normal din. Everything sounded muffled. Anyway, on to the show...
Pre-Show
Match #1 -- Five Guys Burger Battle
Shawn Houston vs. Les Mayne vs. "Backdraft" Chris Lee vs. "Gentleman" Jack Jameson vs. Slim Sexy
A local franchise of Five Guys Burgers and Fries is a sponsor of the WoW which is why they get a battle royal named after them and you don't. This was your typical over the top rope affair contested by five guys who all look like they regularly enjoy burgers and fries. Just the basic facts please.
- Les Mayne is eliminated by Jameson.
- Shawn Houston is eliminated by Chris Lee.
- Slim Sexy topples over a low bridge courtesy of Gentleman Jack Jameson.
- Jameson tossed over the top rope by the winner Chris Lee.
Main Show
Scot Summers and his Psycho Circus (Silky Baines, Jen Alise) are out to start the show. David Stahr is accompanying so I guess he has joined the Circus. Summers has the microphone. From the bits and pieces I could hear and understand Summers is introducing the Psychos, including David Stahr. (I think I head the word counselor.) Apparently, for reasons unknown (to me anyway), Summers is in charge tonight. This doesn't sit well with co-owner, promoter, and all-around good egg Chaz Taylor. Chaz enters with backup - Jaykus Plisken, Mike Dell, Ryan Genesis, Chris Lee, and Hambone. This is not an official group or anything, so for now we'll just call them Team WoW. Chaz is on the microphone. These guys could be up there cutting the greatest promos of their careers for all I know. Now it's Plisken who has the microphone. Some guy behind me keeps yelling "Mumble louder." Apparently Summers has made a #1 Contenders match between Dell and Plisken. That should be good. Now it's Ryan Genesis on the microphone. Genesis attacks Mike Dell. Not even 10 minutes into the show and Team WoW has a defector. PopN and Lock enter and Team WoW's intimidation factor decreases further. Eventually, Summers leads his Circus to the back, followed by Team WoW and it's time for some wrestling.
Match #1 -- #1 Contenders Match for the WoW Cruiserweight Championship
"Primetime" Ricky Douglas vs. Bolt Brady
These guys have similar physiques and styles. Douglas has experience while Brady has youth and exuberance. Brady should really lay off the energy drinks though, as hyperactivity seems to be his normal operating mode. Tonight though it's experience and treachery that pay off. Douglas uses the ropes to block a Codebreaker attempt, then with his feet on the ropes, folds up Brady for the win.
Some of Brady's exuberance must have infected Douglas as now he is calling out the Cruiserweight Champion ACH and demanding a title match right now. ACH asks the crowd if they want to see this matchup. The crowd answers in the affirmative and an impromptu championship match is about to get underway.
Match #2 -- WoW Cruiserweight Championship Match
"Primetime" Ricky Douglas vs. (c) ACH
Douglas attacks from behind as the referee is patting down ACH. Momentum doesn't favor Douglas long, as ACH quickly turns things back around. However, an ill-advised ropewalk swings the momentum back to Douglas as he pushes ACH off and in the process is able to snap ACH's arm over the top rope. Douglas now has a target to focus on at least for a little while. ACH hits a beautiful pumphandle neckbreaker (onto the knee) during his comeback. ACH gets the win when in one motion he pulls Douglas down into a cradle rollup then rolls on through into a cradle suplex. Count the three. Fun match.
As ACH celebrates his victory with the fans, Scot Summers and his new bestie Ryan Genesis make their way ringside. Summers is making another match. This one will be ACH versus Ryan Genesis for the Cruiserweight Championship and it will be now. Ring announcer Tony Brooklyn contends Genesis is too heavy to compete for the Cruiserweight title (cruiserweight cutoff is 220 lbs). As it happens, Genesis conveniently thought ahead to bring a digital bathroom scale out for just such a circumstance. According to this particular scale, well actually Summers reading of said scale, Genesis weighs in at 199 pounds. So Genesis, who is physically larger than Scot Summers (who is the Heavyweight Champion) gets a shot at the Cruiserweight title.
Match #3 -- WoW Cruiserweight Championship Match
Ryan Genesis vs. (c) ACH
Genesis waffles ACH with the scale to start the match. This is almost a two on one match as at every opportunity Summers (from the outside) punches, kick, stomps, chokes ACH. Somehow ACH manages to kick out of every pin attempt by Genesis. ACH even manages to rally for a comeback. But Summers isn't through interfering. As ACH goes up top Summers is there to push him off and into the clutches of Genesis. Death Valley Bomb and ACH is out. Ryan Genesis is the new Cruiserweight Champion.
ACH is helped to the back. Summers and Genesis remain at ringside as Chris Lee and Chaz Taylor make an entrance. It soon becomes obvious why Summers and Genesis are still out here, as Jen Alise and David Stahr are to face off with Chaz and Lee.
Match #4 -- Tag Team Match
"Backdraft" Chris Lee & Chaz Taylor vs. Jen Alise & David Stahr
This is more of a four on two match as at every opportunity Summers and Genesis (from the outside) punch, kick, stomp, choke Chaz and Lee. Somehow Chaz and Lee manage to hang tough - that is until Chaz finds himself handcuffed to a ringpost. Lee takes a knockout punch from Genesis and Stahr makes the cover. The Psycho Circus wins again.
Interestingly, there are several people sitting near me who just happen to have handcuff keys on them.

INTERMISSION **
Match #5 -- #1 Contenders Match for the WoW Heavyweight Championship
Jaykus Plisken vs. Mike Dell
Mike Dell attempts here to use his speed and agility to counterbalance Plisken's strength advantage. But, Plisken has some quickness too and Dell eventually finds himself on the receiving end of Plisken's power moves. Scot Summers and Ryan Genesis are out at ringside again. This time they're just here to watch and do not interfere in the match. Plisken gets a clean win with his version of the Widowmaker (military press into a fireman's carry into the reverse Death Valley Bomb).
Postmatch, Dell and Plisken shake hands. But when Plisken turns away, Summers throws brass knuckles into the ring. Mike Dell puts the knuckles on and KO's Plisken. The Psycho Circus now adds Mike Dell to their growing roster. Chaz Taylor and what remains of Team WoW are out to prevent a further beatdown. Plisken recovers enough to grab a chair and chase the Circus guys to the back.
Match #6 -- WoW Women's Championship Match
Simply Luscious vs. (c) Barbi Hayden
I don't think I've ever seen Simply Luscious wrestle as a fan favorite. Which is fine by me because as a heel she rules. She easily had the crowd against her before she even entered the ring. By the time the real life super babyface Barbi Hayden entered the crowd was red hot. Eventually I would like to see these two work a full match. That wasn't happening here tonight as it was obvious they were just buying time until Jen Alise interferes. Miss Jen does interfere but only attacks Barbi. Whether this means Luscious is aligned with the Circus I don't know. Barbi retains by DQ.
Again Scot Summers makes his way to the ring. Ryan Genesis and Mike Dell are apparently buddies now and accompany Summers out. Summers was scheduled to defend the WoW Heavyweight title tonight against DJ King but King isn't here. Summers announces he will defend his title in a three way match against both Crusaders (PopN and Lock).
Match #7 -- Three Way Elimination Match for the WoW Heavyweight Championship
PopN vs. Lock vs. (c) Scot Summers
PopN and Lock immediately doubleteam Summers but then switch to tag style with one man in and the other on the apron. I'm confused. It doesn't really matter though as Dell and Genesis are roaming on the outside making life miserable for whichever Crusader isn't in the ring. Somehow both Crusaders make it to the 10 minute mark. It's curtains for the Crusaders though as Summers eliminates PopN with a legbar then Lock with a rear naked choke.
Main Event -- NWA Texas Tag Team Championship Match
Impeccable: Joey "Diamond" Figueroa & Ken Carson vs. the (c) Gulf Coast Connection: Ben Galvan and Rudy Russo
Figueroa and Carson, who are the reigning WoW Tag Team Champions, are accompanied by the lovely Barbi Hayden (who seems to have recovered completely from the beating she took earlier). The referee is allowing liberal doubleteams by the rudos (Galvan and Russo). Figueroa is taking a beating here. Three times Figueroa makes it to his corner and tags in Carson only for the referee to put Carson back out because he didn't see the tag. Yes, three times. At the 15 minute call Figueroa finally makes a tag to Carson that the referee sees. Carson is a burning house of fire for about sixty seconds or so and then tags Figueroa back in. D'oh!!! Now it's a free-for-all. Galvan, on the outside, grabs Barbi by the hair. Carson takes him out. Team Impeccable doubleteams Russo and Figueroa puts him away with a powerslam. Impeccable have won (back) the NWA Texas Tag Team titles.
